Our First Meeting –April 24th @ 8:00 pm

Since it looks like everyone will be able to make it on Thursdays, we will have our meetings on the fourth Thursday of every month. We were thinking we would have it at my house, if you need my address &/or directions let me know that as well and I can get them to you. I hope 4/24/08 at 8:00pm works for everyone, if not we would love to have you post you thoughts about the book on the blog.

Our First Book -- Uglies

We thought we would pick a book for the first meeting, and then have a vote about what to read next. Everyone be thinking of books you want to read, and make a list to bring to the first meeting for us to consider.

Synopsis:

Everybody gets to be supermodel gorgeous. What could be wrong with that?

Tally is about to turn sixteen, and she can't wait. Not for her license -- for turning pretty. In Tally's world, your sixteenth birthday brings an operation that turns you from a repellent ugly into a stunningly attractive pretty and catapults you into a high-tech paradise where your only job is to have a really great time. In just a few weeks Tally will be there.

But Tally's new friend Shay isn't sure she wants to be pretty. She'd rather risk life on the outside. When Shay runs away, Tally learns about a whole new side of the pretty world -- and it isn't very pretty. The authorities offer Tally the worst choice she can imagine: find her friend and turn her in, or never turn pretty at all. The choice Tally makes changes her world forever.

Welcome!

We are super excited to start this book club, and to have everyone join and participate. We thought we could set up this blog as a space where everyone could check what books are coming up, leave comments, and right now as a space to help us decide when would be the best time for everyone to have the meetings. Please fill out the survey on the left hand side, and be sure to mark any day that would work for you so we can set up a time that works for the biggest majority.
